Build hope and sustain housing in Greater Fulton and East Henrico

We know that much of what's going on in the world can lead to feelings of hopelessness. We continue to find inspiration in our members, who we get to serve as we nurture their talents and dreams. To us, this is the embodiment of the phrase "Hope springs eternal." Your support of the Neighborhood Resource Center has a direct impact on families.
The Neighborhood Resource Center has provided resources to Greater Fulton since 2002. We expanded our work in 2023 to East Henrico as a result of mass displacement of our neighbors in Greater Fulton. We support 510 families a month in the areas of education, nutrition, and community organizing. This includes the NRC WORKS program, where we provide financial, employment, and income support coaching on at least a monthly basis to our members.
We have been engaged in housing retention and acquisition since 2021, helping our members keep their housing or acquire new housing if they are houseless. One in four new members comes to the NRC Fulton houseless and one in three new members with housing are unable to consistently pay rent. We immediately get to work with these members with one-to-one coaching focused on reducing debt, increasing income, and building credit.
We revised our Barrier Removal program in 2021 to provide flexibility and to deepen our impact. We pay down debt monthly for up to six months for members in this program, so long as they engage in regular monthly coaching. This isn't emergency funding, but it is intended to provide a fast infusion of significant debt reduction. Through this program, we remove the immediate financial crisis that could result in a loss of housing--the largest single expense for most of our members. You can read more about this program and watch a video about the impact we're having here.
We are proud to say that all of our current members that came to us initially facing a housing crisis are now in financial stability. Ten of these members are now in our financial growth stage, meaning that they've built long-term savings, have achieved excellent credit scores, and are preparing for retirement.
We are facing an influx of new members in housing crisis as wages are not keeping up with the cost of housing. We need to raise more unrestricted funding so that we can ensure long-term wraparound support for these members. Every donation that we receive will be put to use to provide direct services to families in Greater Fulton and East Henrico.
